What is the complete nutritional makeup of Boobamilk powder?
Comprehensive nutritional information for Boobamilk powder can be found here.
Why do you use sunflower oil?
While we source the majority of fats from nourishing, full-fat dairy, we do add in a very minimal amount of sunflower oil to provide a balanced fatty acid profile.
Sunflower oil, when properly extracted and stored, contains a rich source of polyunsaturated fats, particularly linoleic acid (an essential omega-6 fatty acid) that is not provided by any of the other oils in Boobamilk blends. Linoleic acid plays a crucial role in brain and immune system development and maintenance, and is involved in the production of essential hormones. Additionally, sunflower oil is a significant source of vitamin E.
The problem is not with sunflower oil itself, but with the way it is extracted and handled during manufacture. Oils extracted with high heat or excessive force become potentially inflammatory and devoid of nutrients. This is why sourcing quality ingredients is absolutely key.
We only source the highest quality cold-pressed and USDA Organic sunflower oil. Our unrefined sunflower oil utilizes a special press to extract oil at low temperatures (95° - 105° F), yielding just a few quarts per hour. Their atmosphere control system keeps it free from exposure to light and oxygen. Unfiltered, retaining all the nutrients, and bottled in amber glass, this delicate unrefined sunflower oil is the purest you can find.

How long does a bag of Boobamilk powder last?
An unopened bag of Boobamilk powder currently has a 6 month shelf life from manufacture date. This is a provisional date based on current testing, and will likely increase pending final shelf life testing results.
Once opened, use the powder within 30 days of opening. To ensure the safety of your product throughout that time, please completely re-seal the zipper and keep the bag in a cool, dark, dry place, limiting exposure to moisture, oxygen or heat.
The powder will rapidly start to attract moisture if left unsealed, which can lead to bacterial growth as the raw milk powder was not pasteurized during the freeze-drying process. Leftover powder should be discarded after the 30 day period, or if moisture is introduced into the bag at any point in time.
Manufacturing/Freeze-Drying
Where/how are your products made?
Our products are hand-made with care in small batches in a certified and licensed commercial kitchen in Moscow, Idaho.
We use a lyophilization (freeze-drying) process to turn our liquid gold into powdery nourishment. Our freeze-drying process never heats the milk above 95° F, ensuring the nutrients are preserved and our products remain biologically alive.
When raw milk is heated significantly above body temperature, enzymes are inactivated, bacteria are killed, proteins are denatured, minerals are no longer in a bioactive and bioavailable matrix, and vitamins are no longer bioavailable. This is why we take such care in manufacturing our nourishing powder!
Do you use powder dispensers?
No, every bag is packaged by hand.
How does the freeze-drying process work?
Freeze-drying, also known as lyophilization, is a process that removes moisture from a product while preserving its structure and nutrients. Here's how it works in steps:
- Freezing: The product is first frozen at very low temperatures. This step solidifies the water inside the product.
- Vacuum Chamber: The pressure in the chamber is then lowered, creating a vacuum.
- Sublimation: Under the low-pressure conditions, the ice in the product doesn't melt into liquid water. Instead, it undergoes sublimation, which is when the solid ice turns directly into water vapor (gas) without becoming liquid. The vapor is then removed from the chamber.
- Secondary Drying: After the majority of the water is removed, the product is heated slightly (no more than 90° in our case) to remove any remaining moisture. This step helps ensure the product is completely dry and stable for long-term storage.
Throughout the entire process, the structure and nutrients of the product are largely preserved because the freezing and vacuum conditions prevent heat damage. Freeze-drying is especially effective for delicate items like proteins, probiotics, and pharmaceuticals, making it a valuable technique in both food and medical industries.
How does your freeze-drying process affect the nutrients in Boobamilk?
Freeze-drying is a gentle process that effectively preserves the nutritional composition of Boobamilk. By using low temperatures and avoiding direct heat, it minimizes nutrient loss compared to other drying methods, such as heat drying.
Research has shown that freeze-drying results in little to no significant decline in macronutrients—proteins, fats, carbohydrates, or overall caloric content—ensuring the milk retains its nutritional value.
How does freeze-drying compare to other drying methods?
Freeze-drying offers several advantages over other drying methods, such as heat or air drying. By using low temperatures and avoiding heat, freeze-drying better preserves vitamins, minerals, and other sensitive nutrients that are often degraded during heat processing. This includes heat-sensitive compounds like vitamins C and B, proteins, and enzymes.
Additionally, since freeze-drying removes moisture without applying heat, it maintains the flavor and texture of the product more effectively than traditional drying methods. This makes it particularly beneficial for preserving delicate materials, such as pharmaceuticals, probiotics, and raw milk products, which can lose their effectiveness or nutritional value when exposed to heat.
